Inside the book

The story begins here.

Walker Davis has worn a United States Marshal's badge for less than a year when a federal warrant sends him south from Cheyenne to Marble, Wyoming Territory. The assignment should be simple: find the man named on the paper and bring him in.

Nothing in Marble is simple.

A cattleman has gone missing. His wife wants answers. The local sheriff has none-and shows little interest in finding any. A hostler gives Walker a name, then asks him to forget he heard it. The saloonkeeper knows more than she is willing to say. Another man has disappeared so completely that the town has learned not to mention him.

Walker came to Marble carrying a warrant. He soon realizes the man he was sent to arrest is only one piece of what has taken hold there. With winter drawing closer and no local lawman he can trust, Walker begins asking questions one at a time and watching who is afraid to answer.

Before he can take anyone back to Cheyenne, he must uncover what happened to the missing men-and survive those who intend to keep Marble quiet.

The First Warrant begins the four-book Walker Davis Westerns.
